True he uses the Jinni to achieve his status, but he keeps it by being kind and clever. The language was very Shakespearean, its old Arabic that got translated to old English.
His mother is skeptical, having never met the man before, but he goes to such lengths to save the two from poverty that she comes around. She figures that no one would do all this work for someone that isnt family. He gives Alaeddin a magical ring and convinces him to enter the magical treasury and bring out the Lamp. He obeys, while filling his pockets to the brim with treasure. When Alaeddin tries to climb out, the Maghrabi demands the Lamp before he will help him out. But the ring contains a Jinni that gets him out of the cave and takes him home. Some time later, he catches an illegal glimpse of the beautiful Princess Badr al-Budr and instantly falls in love. So he sends his mother to the Sultan to offer the treasure as a dowry. Out of greed, the Sultan accepts, forgetting his promise to marry the princess to the Grand Wazirs son. So they promise the princess to Alaeddin in three months, planning to wed her to the Wazirs son in the meantime and keep Alaeddins treasures. Still with me Ok, get a load of this: when Alaeddin discovers the deception, he sends the Jinni to take the Wazirs son out of his room and put him in a closet for the night, and to bring the Princess to Alaeddins chambers to sleep in his bed instead But fear not, Alaeddin commits no villain deed, he just doesnt want her consummating her marriage. I dont know about you guys, but Im a little confused as to why they left this out of the Disney movie. Anyway, this goes on until the Wazirs son asks to be released from the marriage. Now the story starts to resemble the version we all know, Alaeddin using the Jinni to make him a prince, an entourage, money to share with the poor, a beautiful pavilion for the newly wedded couple to share etc. So he tricks the Princess into trading him the old Lamp for a new one as she doesnt know about the Jinni. Once he has it, he commands the Jinni to take the fancy pavilion and the Princess away. The Wazir sees this and has Alaeddin arrested for black magic. The Sultan is all set to behead our hero when the public riot in his defense. So instead, he gives Alaeddin forty days to rescue the Princess and bring her home. He gets Badr al-Budr to get the Maghrabi drunk until he passes out and they recover the Lamp. In the film, Aladdins lesson to be learned is honesty and how telling lies can dig you into a hole that you cant climb out of. Simple. Alaeddin is a scumbag child, but as the story goes on, we see him grow from a bratty child, to a swaggering young man to a good person and loving husband.
